No I haven't just given up blogging already and in case you were wondering I am not dead, but my computer is! First of all we have been having major Broadband problems. Of course BT blamed the ISP and they blamed BT. (We of course knew it was a line fault as we couldn't even get a dial tone on that line.) That went on for a week so we decided to swap to the BT Broadband service, everything under one roof and all that. They said it would take 5 days to connect us. Then of course they couldn't get it to work. Several phonecalls later and, guess what, they think there might be a fault on the line. Another week later and they send out an engineer who confirms there is a fault on the line but can't fix it because it is up a pole and he hasn't got the right van, machinery, tools, brain, etc. Another week later and they finally send out the engineers who do actually seem to know what they are doing, hey presto, we're back in business.....
The previous morning I'm in the bedroom and I hear a strange whirring noise coming fom my study. My lovely computer which is only about 18 months old is dying. The noise is the fan going full pelt and the screen has gone haywire. I left it to cool down but it keeps crashing half way through start up. I have since discovered that this is a common problem with iMac G5's and the people at Apple have at least extended the warranty for certain serial numbers, mine included. We now have to take it to hospital in Bath, I hope they can save it.
I had no idea how much I had come to rely on the web. It's scary really. Damn all this technology, we live on top of a hill I was thinking of trying smoke signals...
